Architectural Technology 5 (ATV) is looking at building’s integrated technical systems such as structural form, environmental systems, materials, construction methods and fire protection elements. Different groups are assigned with one of the four most critical building systems - Egress staircase, Four way curtain-wall joint for commercial, Four way curtain-wall joint for residential, and Elevator system. Our group is looking at the Elevator system. Elevator system as a technological innovation changed the world, made highrises and skyscrapers possible. We approached it with an analytical approach by dissecting individual elevator components and their interrelationships to each other to build a comprehensive understanding of how the elevator system functions. What are the structural systems of elevators? How do they move up and down? What are the operational considerations? How do we ensure the safety and welfare of occupants?
